The GMA Heat actively recommends a more diverse range of emerging Taiwanese pop music talents to domestic and international buyers and curators, aiming to cultivate the international market potential of these emerging artists and expand trading opportunities.
Makav, a 21-year-old indigenous Bunun artist from Taiwan, grew up in a Christian family environment listening to gospel music. During junior high school, she developed a love for Justin Bieber's music, which led her to explore Western pop music styles, influencing her unique interpretation of pop and R&B singing. At the age of 17, she attended an indigenous high school where she learned traditional music and dance, as well as engaged with her native language. Encouraged by her teachers, she began creating her own songs. Her creations blend Bunun, Chinese, and English languages, incorporating elements of hip-hop, R&B, electronic, and soul music styles, reflecting the language usage of the Z generation indigenous youth and gaining attention from peers. In 2023, she released her debut album "Tresure," which is a rare pop gospel work in Mandarin music, focusing on themes of hope in life and gospel spiritual songs, aiming to bring healing energy to listeners.
