What's New
The 31st Golden Melody Awards Ceremony will be held on October 3rd with Suming Rupin, Wing Lo, Daniel Lo, Kasiwa, Chungho, Henry Hsu, and members of the Malan Choir – Chiang Chin Hsiang, Cheng Jung Xi, Kuo Mei Yu, and Lin Yih Jung – performing at the ceremony. With a mixture of veteran and emerging singers, the 31st GMA hopes to convey the resilience and hope of this year's theme of Life through an eclectic performance in indigenous languages, Hakka, Taiwanese, and other native languages. When asked how they prepared for their GMA performances, Suming Rupin, Kasiwa, and Chungho immediately revealed that they've all been trying to lose weight on their own accord. On the other end, Daniel Lo was asked to refrain from bulking up to make sure he could still fit into his outfit. Daniel laughed, saying that, "keep your eyes peeled, I can't promise how revealing my outfit would be."
When asked about how he responded to the performance invitation, lead singer Kasiwa of the GMA-winning band Boxing shared that, "our rehearsals have been so festive, it's like the Harvest Festival. I'm also working on something new for this performance so I'm very excited." Suming Rupin, who is also preparing for his own concert, stated that "I'm nervous but also excited. Being able to work with other native singers this time has inspired so many new ideas and it's just been such a pleasant working experience. I hope that everyone can lend more support to the music industry so that musicians can have a bit more hope."
Taiwanese and Hakka singer Daniel Lo mentioned that, "I'm so honored to be performing at the GMA again. Singing in different languages in one single performance is the greatest challenge this year. It's a strange feeling, knowing that I'm now the seasoned veteran but I'm so happy to be working with young musicians and learning about new things. I really like Kasiwa's rap and so I'm expecting a great performance during the ceremony."
Henry Hsu, often touted as the prince of Taiwanese songs, admitted that, "I've only attended the GMAs before as a nominee so it's actually a lot less stressful to be participating as a performer. I also hope that there's an opportunity to collaborate with this year's nominees."
The king of Hakka songs, Daniel Lo, was very excited, exclaiming that, "I'm trying a completely different music style this year because rock music something that I've never really done before. My performance will also include indigenous languages which has really inspired me. I'm really looking forward to breaking out of my musical comfort zone." Last year's winner of the Best Vocalist – Hakka category, Chungho, happily shared that "When the GMA reached out to me, it was like a dream. I'm so honored to be able to perform and I want to use my music to tell everyone that dark times will pass and there is always light at the end of the tunnel." Despite delays due to the pandemic, the GMA continues to persevere. All the singers expressed their wish that everyone may find hope in their performance as they strive to encourage, inspire unity, and display the resilient vitality of this land through their music.
