TTV will be airing a series of reports, GMA 30 Imusic, on June 9th. The program will interview GMA nominees Eli Hsieh (Best Male Mandarin Singer), Shi Shi (Best Female Mandarin Singer), Chthonic (Best Band), Dog G (Best Taiwanese Album), and Nana Lee (Best Taiwanese Album). TTV’s GMA 30 Imusic will be hosted by GMA red carpet hosts Dennis and Mary. They will be offering a professional view of this year’s nominated works. The five GMA 30 Imusic episodes will air from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. every Saturday and Sunday starting June 9th on TTV for three consecutive weeks.
After taking home the Best New Artist at the 29th GMA, Eli has been more actively involved in charity on top of cultivating his music. His album, Where are We Going, garnered him nominations for Best Male Mandarin Singer, Best Mandarin Album, Producer of the Year, Single, and Album of the Year. Talking to Mary, he admits that, “I hope I can win all the awards I was nominated for and use that impact to give back to society.”He also reveals that this album was made with his life. During the production, his mom had cancer, placing an incredible amount of pressure on him and he nearly didn’t make it. Thankfully he was able to hold on. Of that experience, he says “living is hard, but living on is the only way for a comeback.” His comments shocked Mary, “this album is your mind laid bare in front of us, you’ll get goosebumps listening to it!” to which Eli humored, “goosebumps because it’s too scary?” to the audience’s laughter.
The black horse of the GMA this year is Shi Shi, her album, SHI’s Journey won her nominations for Best Female Mandarin Singer, Best Mandarin Album, and Album of the year. Her songs, “Flyaway” and “Love Me Like a Liar,” were also nominated in the category of Best Music Arrangement. In the interview, she thanks the GMAs for introducing her to a wider audience, she also thanks the GMAs for “giving me a a great reason to continue singing in Taipei.” Upon being asked which award she was most confident in taking, she laughs it off, “I’m not thinking too much into it but my bet would be on the Best Music Arrangement award because I have two songs nominated for that category!”
Cthonic received nominations for Song of the Year, Best Taiwanese Album, Best Band, and Album of the Year. Lead singer, Freddy Lim, also received a nomination of Best Lyrics for his song, “Millenia’s Faith Undone.”With his dual role as a legislator, Freddy Lim’s focus for recent years has been in the Congress. During the rare occasions that he shows up for practice, his bandmates teases him, asking “what are you doing here!?”Commenting on Denise Ho’s cover of “Millenia’s Faith Undone,”Freddy praises her pronunciation as it is her first try at Taiwanese songs. He also expresses that her rendition elicits even more emotions. Freddy Lim reveals in the interview that he expresses significant life events like changing tracks, his father’s death, and becoming a parent through creating music. Compared to before where he took his time, Freddy was able to produce a song in 2 weeks this time, with Freddy exclaiming that “it’s an emotion-packed album.”
Taiwan’s hip hop OF, Dog G, was nominated for Best Male Taiwanese Singer, Best Taiwanese Album, and Album of the Year. His album, Darknet, has a diverse inspiration like gangs, motels, and porn actresses. The realistic social portrayal is heavy but Dog G states that, “I want to express what’s happening to my friends with everyone in my native language, Taiwanese.” Dog G hopes to take home the Album of the Year award the most out of his nominations.
Nana Lee is a singer, TV actress, and movie actress. Her album Her, won her nominations for Best Female Taiwanese Singer, Best Taiwanese Album, and Album of the Year. This is her first Taiwanese Album in her eleven years as a singer and she invited Eric Chen on board. Looking back to the moment she found out she was nominated, Nana can barely conceal her joy and excitement. She thanks the jury for their recognition and expresses that her biggest wish, if she wins, is to take the whole company for a trip overseas, laughing that “Iceland is currently in my pocket list.” She’s also most excited about the Best Female Taiwanese Singer award, hoping to introduce herself as a “singer.”
