The 30th Golden Melody Awards Ceremony will be grandly held on June 29th at the Taipei Arena. This year the organizer invited the famed Hong Kong “steel-lung” diva Gloria Tang Sze-wing (G.E.M) to reinterpret the top 10 classic songs on Youtube, each with more than 100 million clicks, with her stirring voice. One of the songs happened to be Tang's own Light Years Away, which she wrote both the lyrics and arrangement. “Able to perform my own song at the Golden Melody Awards is truly a joy to behold!” she excitedly stated. Tang also held certain trepidation toward the prospect of being a guest performer for GMA, “The Golden Melody Awards holds a very special place within my heart, and I feel very honored [that I was invited]” she stated. To string all ten songs together perfectly into a performance and express it in her own unique manner, Tang admitted, was a very stressful endeavor that required her to start preparing back in March. Nevertheless, she smiled and said “With all the heart and soul I poured into the preparation, I hope to populate everyone's mind with great memories [of the performance].”
Tang took this performance very seriously, she revealed that in order to present the audience with her best voice and a spectacular performance, she took pain to take care of her throat and only drink warm or hot water. Weight training and cardio exercises were also put in the mix; she stressed that both strong stamina and robust lung capacity would be required on the stage. As for wardrobe, Tang laughed and admitted that it is quite difficult to find something that fit all 10 songs, covering a range of tempo fast and slow, and styles lyrical and hip-hop.
“The wardrobe department still requires further conceptualization!” Tang laughed with a bit of embarrassment. Always have an eye on the current status of Mandarin-language talents, Tang was most impressed with the nominee for Best New Artist Lexie Liu. The two had once took part in the same talent show. “Watching her grow makes me feel happy for her”, Tang also praised Liu for her potentials. Tang then proceed to express pride in the fact that Yoyo Sham, a fellow Hong Kong singer was also nominated for the Best Female Singer category. Speaking about her Mandarin-language album scheduled to be released this year, Tang confidently stated “I have a new beginning this year, the album is 100% my perspective, my attitude, my style, and my music. This is a very significant album for me.”
This year's 30th Golden Melody Awards Ceremony will be held on June 29th, 2019 at the Taipei Arena. Organizer TTV will begin live broadcast of the Red Carpet at 5 pm and the ceremony at 7 pm on the TTV main channel. The 2019 Golden Melody Awards Festival will encompass a series of events including the Conference, Master Classes, Networking, Exhibition, Showcase, and GMA Heat from June 26th, 2019 to June 29th, 2019. The series will invite noted international lecturers to share their experience and conduct exchanges in Taiwan, expand strategic cooperation with international music festivals, and provide diverse music and performance styles from various country and regions.
