Makoto LIANG (Moderator)
General Manager, Muses & Nymph Entertainment Co., Ltd.
Makoto LIANG is a pioneer of Japanese music in Taiwan. He's been in the music industry for nearly three decades and has founded the Japanese music divisions at Pony Canyon, Sony Music, and avex, successfully promoting a J-pop trend and cultivating marketing talents for the Japanese entertainment industry. In the early 90s, Japanese drama and music was banned from TV channels and radio stations in Taiwan. With the Eastern Music Information Center, Makoto was able to overcome the dynamic media censorship and provide regular J-Pop updates to mainstream media. He also submitted articles analyzing Japanese entertainment trends to news columns. On November 15th, 1993, the government started lifting part of the ban on Japanese music and LIANG, who was at Sony Music at the time, took advantage of the situation to introduce Rie Miyazawa, Puffy, the Tokyo Performance Doll, Dreams Come True, etc. to the Taiwanese market. This move launched Taiwanese people into a craze for Japanese pop culture. In 1998, Makoto went to avex and, with a marketing approach using Japanese aesthetics, crowned new artists such as Ayumi Hamasaki, Koda Kumi, and Ai Otsuka as J-pop queens in Taiwan in a post-TK era. After his rise to vice president, he broke boundaries and helped SM Entertainment start a K-pop trend in Taiwan. He was also behind the successful rise of Dragostea Din Tei.
With years of marketing experience for Chinese-language music and music in other languages, Makoto founded his own company, Makato Entertainment, in 2016. He has successfully introduced Anna Lee, a Makato artist, into the Japanese entertainment industry. Lee is a leading actor and variety show host who can be seen on NHK and TBS. Makato LIANG is currently serving as a strategic consultant for Sony Music Entertainment Japan. In 2021, he became manager at Muses & Nymph Entertainment Co., Ltd. and his primary target is to promote AKB48 Team TP in overseas markets.
