On May 29th, 2019, the Ministry of Culture Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development (BAMID) held the press conference announcing the performing cast of the 2019 Golden Melody Awards and Festival. The event was attended by Director General Hsu Yi-jun of BAMID, and a total of 10 former GMA nominees including Amuyi, Haor, Sweet John, Paige Su, Atomic Bunny, FLUX, Accusefive, James Morris-Cotteril, John Stoniae, and Rima Zeidan. The event marked the official beginning of this year’s GMA series events.
The 2019 Golden Melody Awards and Festival series events will be held form June 26th, 2019 to June 29th, 2019. The series of events include the Conference, Biz Matching Center, Exhibition, Showcase, and GMA Heat; Director General Hsu state that this year’s GMA Festival expanded on last year’s strategic alliance with music festivals abroad, with collaborating members increasing from three to six, creating a more diversified performance portfolio for the Showcase. A total of nine sets of Taiwanese artists and bands will be performing at the concert, along with six additional performers and groups from Japan, Thailand, Sweden, Korea, Malaysia, and Mongolia, for a total of 15 sets of artists performing at the upcoming GMA Showcase Concert. It is the hope of the organizers that the performance and exchanges with artists and music styles from various regions of the world could spark novel and creative works for the future.
BAMID announced that the Showcase will be held from June 26th, 2019 to June 29th, 2019 in Clapper Studio located within the Syntrend Creative Park. This concert has a strong cast this year; including nominee for this year’s GMA Best Aboriginal Language Vocalist Seredau, as well as Mr. Loud Who Chance, EggPlantEgg, Paige Su, Ann, Amuyi, FLUX, Atomic Bunny, LEO37+SOSS for a total of nine Taiwanese singers and groups.
An additional six sets of international performers consist of Getsunova from Thailand, The Venopian Solitude from Malaysia, Ame no Parade from Japan, Royal Prospect from Sweden, RICO from Korea, and Ginjin from Mongolia round up the cast. The showcase will also be hosted by domestic virtual idols Hoonie, Orith, and Kwa. This marks the first cooperation between GMA and virtual idols. The showcase will be held for three nights leading up to the GMA Ceremony. Ticket sale began on May 30th, 2019.
In order to provide additional exposure and performance opportunities for emerging domestic pop music talents, GMA Festival continues with the tradition of organizing the GMA Heat for emerging talents. The event will take place from June 28th, 2019 to June 29th, 2019 at the Xinyi Mitsukoshi Chianti Plaza. A total of 10 sets of domestic performers, including nominees for this year’s Best Male Mandarin Vocalist, Best Mandarin Album, and Best New Artist categories, will take part in the event alongside two additional bands from Singapore and France. The domestic performers include: ØZI, Haor, Karencici, John Stoniae, 9m88, Sweet John, Rima Zeidan, James Morris-Cotteril, Accusefive, and Xiao Bing Chih. The event promised to be a spectacular experience, and it is free for the public to attend.
The Showcase will be held between June 26th to 28th, 2019 at Clapper Studio within Syntrend Creative Park. Ticket sale began on 12 pm May 30th, 2019 and is available via the FamiTicket system at Family Mart; GMA Heat will be held on June 28th and 29th, 2019 at the Taipei Xinyi Chianti Plaza.
