What's New
The 2019 Golden Melody Awards and Festival's Occupying Campus Industry-University Cooperation activities kicked off Saturday (April 20, 2019). This year's course, as opposed to that of previous years', hopes to cultivate singing and performance skills in students. The course on live performance techniques this week was taught by the talented singer, Yoga Lin. A total of thirty students from pop music departments across different Taiwan colleges enrolled in the class. Yoga Lin remained humble and said that it was a great learning experience for him as well because he would be able to listen to different cases in this one class. He also humored that, if students fall asleep it must be because of his charming voice and that he would let the student continue sleeping. Yoga Lin also admits that, “I'm not a very confident person and I never imagined that I could be a singer,” encouraging his students to begin understanding themselves and figuring out their future paths.
In the interactive three-hour class, Yoga Lin offered suggestions and jammed with his students. His down-to-earth and detail-oriented teaching style eased the anxiety and pressure in his students. Some of the students performed exceedingly well, garnering praises from Yoga Lin, “the singing is great, I don't have anything to offer, just keep on practicing.”
This reminded him of his high school band days when he asked Roger Yang for advice and received compliments. On top of passing on stage performance techniques, he also joked around, prompting laughter from his students. Recently, Yoga Lin has been busy with his tour, but when the upcoming Mother's Day was brought up, he happily expressed that this is the first Mother's Day and Father's Day that he and his wife will be experiencing so he will be putting it in his schedule to remind himself.
2019 GMA's Occupying Campus Industry-University Cooperation continues to work towards its goal of “Building Base and Cultivating New Talents.” The course this year is packed, further focusing on performance techniques, physical expression, vocal expression, visual aesthetics, and self-marketing as it works hard to nurture the next generation on Taiwan's music scene. Other than Academia event, the 2019 GMA will also host a slew of events including Conference, Biz Matching Center, Exhibition, Showcase, GMA Heat, etc. Prominent international speakers will be invited to share their experiences and interact at the GMA events. GMA will also expand its strategic alliance with major music festivals around the world so the audience will be able to listen to different music and performance styles coming from different regions and countries.
