The 30th Golden Melody Awards Ceremony will be staged at Taipei Arena on June 29. This year (2019), the organizer worked with professional filmmaking team to create 15 micro documentaries by interviewing 70 groups of music professionals in front of and behind the scenes. The topic and the making of these documentaries resonate with this year’s award theme, “Resounding Ages”. In the one-minute-long videos, music industry workers from different generations share their view on music and intriguing personal stories, and exchange insights. As GMA is celebrating its 30th anniversary, these films are particularly precious, which preserve valuable footages and legacy of the industry, and start a new chapter towards the future for the awards. They will be screened in between sections of the ceremony.

The documentary project is supported by 70 individuals or groups of music professionals, including famous singers A-mei, Karen Mok, S.H.E, MayDay, Ronghao Li, and LaLa Hsu. A lot of the artists jumped right in and took part in the shooting. Devoting her whole life to music, singer Tsai Chin was the “enabler” of the Golden Melody Awards. Seeing that there are music awards for many other regions around the world but not in Taiwan, she wrote an eight-page-long proposal for the establishment of today’s GMA back in 1982. Thinking upon this milestone during the interview still made her eyes well up with tears. Wakin Chau, commonly referred to as the “national singer”, is one of the most influential singers in the 1990s. He was nominated as the Best Male Vocalist in the first GMA, and won the award three years later. Hasn’t made much appearance on camera for some time, Chau showed his support and participated in the project.
