2017 Golden Melody Awards & Festival will organize a three-day SHOW CASE concert from June 21st to June 23rd at 7PM each day at ATT SHOW BOX. To facilitate international exchanges in pop music in Taiwan, Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development (BAMID) of Ministry of Culture has been working to connect GMA and TIMM in Japan since 2016. Last year, PASSEPIED from Japan and 831 from Taiwan performed in the other country. With great performances by 831 in Japan, more musicians and bands from Taiwan are exploring international opportunities. The two organizers also recommended representatives to attend respective forums to share professional experiences last year. This format will continue this year in GMA and expand to music festivals in other countries. With signature maid outfits, Japanese band BAND-MAID is invited to Taiwan this year. Besides eye-catching styles, its music is widely received by rock fans. To build up strategic alliances with Southeast Asian countries, GMA works with BIG MOUNTAIN MUSIC FESTIVAL in Thailand to bring the trio MY LIFE AS ALI THOMAS to Taiwan. Its female vocals like no other and smooth English songs are definitely recommended in the festival this year. The SHOW CASE is open to public to engage with great music from other neighboring countries. GMA will continue to push the festival forward for more musical and cultural exchanges in Asia. Live performances will demonstrate great music and charisma in many other countries. Participating local musicians and bands include William Wei, Crowd Lu, 911, Balai, Eli Hsieh, Chiu-Pi, Chang & Lee, Hello Nico, Sticky Rice, and Sunset Rollercoaster. This will be a great chance to enjoy a whole variety of music in an intimate venue. Singer and songwriter William Wei was nominated for four Golden Melody Awards with his debut album eight years ago, and won Best New Artist the next year. He has explored various music styles, such as folk, techno, dance, and rock over the years. In the SHOW CASE, he will rearrange award-winning songs into new experiences. After receiving Best Vocalist – Aboriginal Language award last year, aboriginal singer Balai has been to many local and international performances. He will prepare a full show in the SHOW CASE. Chiu-Pi was well recognized for his performance in Sing My Song program in China last year. His music, lyrics and performances offer a new aspect in techno music. With a new contract with music label ROKON, he will show us new and mesmerizing techno music. Hello Nico was nominated for Best New Artist in Golden Melody Awards last year. Its works were chosen twice as campaign theme music for Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival in 2015 and 2016. The band will perform eight popular songs non-stop in the SHOW CASE. While preparing for the second album, Chang & Lee designs new performances with undisclosed special guests this time. Sticky Rice just celebrates its 20-year anniversary with a new album. Its new song, combined with a new online game, is very addictive to many young fans, as well as nostalgic among experienced ones. Its performance is also commonly expected.
