The 2017 Golden Melody Awards & Festival (GMA&F) will be held from Wednesady 21st June, 2017 to Friday 23rd, June 2017 at Le Meridien Taipei. The series of events include an international forum, pitching sessions, speed networking sessions , and a business trade center for the enterpreneur participants, while the ticketed conerts and exhibition events will be open to the general public. The exhibition is closely linked to the visual theme of this year's GMA, that of the evolution of sound storage medium. Based on the interweaving of musical notes and technology, the exhibition aims to take the general public on a trip to the Virtual Reality Record Store of the future.
Tracing the history of sound recording medium from the phonograph record through the era of audio cassettes, recording media has conquered the ears of countless listeners. The advent of comapct disks (CDs), along with the first published CD album trailblazed by Rollingstone, has allowed the rise of many artists and bands. Many popular classics followed in suit. The evolution of technology has led to the birth of digital audio and changes in the recording medium. Digital audio expanded the cross-domain application for music, and allowed the creation of many new stories. What form would the next phase of music presents itself in people's lives, happens to be the principal focus of this year's exhibition. The Virtual Realty Record Store will allow the audience to peak into the prestige of a future record store through virtual space. The exhibition venue will be devided into three sections. Section A will be the VR Themed Section, exhibiting the music videos of recent GMA laureates including categories such as the Best Music Video, Best Male Vocalist - Mandarin, Best Female Vocalist - Mandarin, and Best Musical Group. Section B will be the VR Experience Station, featuring the 360-degree Music Videos from Li Ronghao, JJ Lin, Hush and other artists from the KKBOX Music Awards list. Section C will be the GMA Honorarium Section, broadcasting performances and award ceremonies from the 25th to the 27th GMA. The walls of the honorarium will also feature design elements inspired by the album cover of recent winners of GMA. The exhibition will be open to the general public.
