The Golden Melody Awards rolls out the red carpet this June 25 on the 2016 GMA Award Ceremony. One of the biggest stars of the acting and singing world in Asia, Karen Mok will be on stage to perform live. She spoke with excitement over the gala event: “The GMAs have always been a good friend to me, so I had to come out and support it this year. I hope we can give everyone an entertaining night.” Mok’s performance will revolve around the themes of love and equality. Joining her will be an eight-man instrumental accompaniment and the 2015 Golden Melody winner of Best Album Producer Arai Soichiro, who will be taking the reins on music design for the performance. “These seven years, from my tour in 2009 to now, Arai and I have never stopped collaborating. We understand each other fairly well by now, so whether we’re talking about a new album or the GMA performance, it all goes very smoothly. In the end, I just hope we can give the listeners a little warmth through song.” That is not the only connection between Mok and the GMAs this year. “Regardez,” the first hit from her album Departures, was written by the lead vocalist of Sodagreen, Wu Tsing-Fong, a band that is nominated for several awards. Mok gave her blessing and approval, saying, “the band has defined itself with a unique style. And Vivaldi Project, the band’s album series modeled on the four seasons, I cannot recommend it enough! I love these conceptual works. I hope Sodagreen wins everything they're nominated for!”
Mok was recently preparing for the Toronto stop on her “Regardez” tour on June 12. At her previous tour stop, Auckland, New Zealand, the audience surprised the singer as they sang “Happy Birthday.” This was not only her first time celebrating her birthday on stage, but it was the first time she had celebrated down under. “I’ve had so many birthdays, and so this ‘first’ is very special.” Even after Auckland, Mok encountered many more “happy birthdays” from fans on the road to Canada. “It’s more of a birth-month than a birth-day at this point. But I’m still very happy all the same!” She also said that she is looking forward to her on-stage performance at the GMAs this June 25.
