The “2015 Golden Melody Awards & Global Music Festival” press conference was held by the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development on March 19, marking the start of this year’s Golden Melody series events. Mr. Chang Chung-Jen, Director-General of the Bureau, said in his speech that the events last year allowed us to look back at the glorious moments in the Mandarin pop music world and witness the laughter and tears of generations recorded by music artists. However, this is not the end of Mandarin pop music but a new start. This year, the Golden Melody Awards will celebrate its 26th anniversary with the spirit of “Young, Dynamic & New Generation,” representing a new era of Mandopop.
In 2014, the Golden Melody Awards presented the first “Global Music Festival,” bringing the Awards to the international level, in which influential giants of international music industries were invited to attend the events, got to know the music culture of Taiwan and shared their perspectives on latest trends. In 2015, the Bureau will organize a series of closely connected events under the official name of “the 26th GMA,” combining the 26th Golden Melody Awards and 2015 Global Music Festival to bring the Awards to a whole new level.
The first part of the events, "Golden Melody Stars—Occupying Campus," will kick off in April, featuring a total of 31 talented singers and emerging groups from major record labels such as HIM, B’IN, Universal, Seed, Linfair, Rock, Tour Creative, Timeless Fusion Wave, JVR, Enjoy, Sony, Warner and XYmusic who will hold 12 campus concerts and seminars at schools across Taiwan to allow young people to feel the charm and diversity of Mandopop. What’s unique for this year is that the “Golden Melody Runway Show” program will be joined by singers and fashion majors from three universities to craft the outfits that will be worn by the singers during the campus concerts. This will provide opportunities for collaboration between fashion and music while enable potential talents to develop themselves, laying solid foundations for Mandopop.
With resources mobilized by the whole music industry in Taiwan, this year’s events will again be organized by accomplished Taiwan Television and Recording Industry Foundation. Project directors are Zoe Lin, TTV’s chief anchorwoman, and Denver Chang, RIT’s Chairman of the Board project directors; renowned producer Chen Chen-Chuan continues to serve as Awards Ceremony Program Planner. RIT’s 11 members (Linfair, Rock, JVR, HIM, Gold Typhoon, Forward, Avex, Sony, Seed, Universal, Warner) and non-members, along with their artists, will spare no effect to take the events to new heights.
2015 Global Music Festival is scheduled to take place on June 24-26 at Grand Hyatt Taipei, including international fora, Music Business Matching Center, exhibition on Taiwan’s major music festivals, six concerts, Golden Melody Stars – Occupying Campus and workshops. The 26th Golden Melody Awards will be held on June 27 at the Taipei Arena. All are welcome.
